Unite for the Sea
Program Activities

The Unite for the Sea youth programme includes both immersive or physical education activites (such as swim, snorkel or dive lessons and field trips) as well as theory-based learning (such as virtual tours and presentations from marine biologists, creative arts & craft activities and lesson-based learning). All activities are sponsored by Unite BVI so that they can be offered free of charge for youth who may otherwise not have the opportunity.

Every summer we pick a different theme to focus our attention on as our goal is to over the years inspire a generation of ocean conservation advocates.  Last summer we learned about endangered species of sea turtles and what we can do to try to protect them.  This summer, the core themes are:

  • Plastic Pollution

  • Mangroves & Healthy Ecosystems

  • The Importance of Water Quality

Unite for the Sea
Programme Themes

Plastic Pollution

It’s effect on the ocean (& how you can help!)

Join us and explore the world of plastics, why we use them, what happens after we’re finished with them and their impact on the environment.

How much plastic do you use? Do you always dispose of it properly? If not, you could be endangering locally protected species of animals and plants!

Mangroves

Their critical value for healthy ecosystems (& how you can help rehabilitate them).

Mangroves are an important part of the British Virgin Islands ecosystem and are responsible for helping maintaining healthy biodiversity. Click to learn just how special these trees are and how we can protect them!

Why is it important to have good water quality? For the British Virgin Islands, water quality is critical to maintaining the beauty of our islands and the ecosystem that surrounds us.
